President

Dr. Madi is a multi-disciplined geologist with a successful track record and over 30 years in the Canadian and international oil and gas industry. He has held senior technical positions for operating oil companies and independent consulting firms and has been involved in a variety of oil and gas discoveries.

He started his career in Algeria where he worked for eight years for Sonatrach and as a lecturer at the National Institute of Hydrocarbon, then moved to Canada where he completed a PhD degree in Carbonate Sedimentology & Diagenesis in April 1994. He has worked extensively on exploration and development projects throughout Western Canada, specializing in carbonate plays and localization of subtle/diagenetic traps. Several of these have led to oil and gas discoveries.

Internationally, Dr. Madi consulted for Occidental in 1997-1998, First Calgary Petroleum in 1998-2002, and Petro Canada in 2004-2007 on their exploration blocks in the MENA region and was involved in three discoveries.

As a founder and VP Exploration of Madison PetroGas, he evaluated several basins/blocks and farm-in opportunities throughout the world, which ultimately resulted in two  acquisitions in Egypt and Cameroon. Dr. Madi founded APEX in 2008, and has led its growth since then.

Dr. Madi has authored papers published in the AAPG Bulletin, Facies and SPE Journal on carbonate sedimentology and resource assessment of unconventional plays.

Michael Volcko

Chief Executive Officer

Mr Volcko is a reservoir engineer with more than 25 years of petroleum industry experience. He was founder and President of Altius Energy, a private Canadian oil company which acquired, developed and operated oil production in Kazakhstan, which grew to nearly 2000 bbl/d prior to being acquired by Arawak Energy, TSX-listed company. He subsequently acted as the Vice President, Business Development and Executive Director of Arawak Energy. Previously, Mr. Volcko worked for PanCanadian Petroleum Limited for over thirteen years, initially performing reservoir and production engineering functions for domestic Canadian operations, and subsequently performing technical evaluations for the International Division, including projects in Southeast Asia, Australia, North Africa, Russia, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

Upon the company’s exit from Kazakhstan, Mr. Volcko became Project Coordinator, South America and in 1998, Manager, Engineering and Development International. Mr. Volcko holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calgary.

Allan Albertson

VP Operations

Mr Albertson has a B.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering and extensive experience with drilling and completions operations in many parts of the world, including Canada, US, Europe, Middle East, Asia, and South America. Allan’s expertise includes interdisciplinary projects in reservoir characterization and technology development, horizontal well design & drilling, reservoir simulation, and hydraulic fracturing.

Mr. Albertson is the founder of Fire Creek Resources, a Canadian drilling and completions consulting firm. He has extensive experience with direct onsite supervision of wellsite and production operations around the world and has consulted for variety of companies from juniors to major operators, as well as service companies. His firm specializes in high pressure well designs, as well as in challenging and unconventional reservoirs, including tight sandstones, carbonates and shales. In March 2016, Allan was granted a patent by the United States Patent Office (Patent number: 9,284,821 B1) for his innovative multi-lateral completion technique.

Graeme Bate

VP Corporate Development

Mr. Bate is an experienced petroleum executive, with 30 years of varied industry experience around the world. For many years, he has been one of the industry’s leading petroleum economists, advising governments across Africa, the Middle East and Asia as well companies investing in opportunities in these regions. He has led the design and negotiation of Production Sharing Contracts and/or Service Contracts in many countries, in particular in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Pakistan and Gabon. He is a petrophysicist and reservoir engineer by training and worked in several African and European countries as a field engineer and manager with Schlumberger.

For many years he was a Partner and the leader of the Canadian oil and gas industry consulting business of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. Mr. Bate holds a M.Sc. in Engineering Physics from Queen’s University and a Diploma in International Relations from the London School of Economics.

Murray Watts

Chief Geophysicist

Mr. Watts is a Professional Geophysicist and Technical Manager with thirty-five years of industry experience. Murray has actively participated in exploration projects from Alaska to Kazakhstan and has been involved in a variety of oil and gas discoveries.

Mr. Watts has designed and managed the acquisition, processing and interpretation of many 2D and 3D surveys for exploration, development and reservoir modelling. Over his career, he has supervised geotechnical staff, geophysical contractors, and utilized the latest technology in all aspects of geophysics from acquisition through processing and interpretation.
